40 Watt Club

About 40 Watt Club

The 40 Watt Club is the spiritual home of the Athens music scene and a venue that shaped American indie rock — the stage that helped launch R.E.M., the B-52's, and dozens of acts that followed. The mid-size standing-room venue on West Washington Street has hosted everyone from local newcomers to national indie touring acts since the late 1970s, with its reputation built entirely on the quality of the music and the energy of its audiences. It remains one of the most respected small clubs in the American indie rock circuit.
