Labor Day weekend does not have to come with a ticket price.

The Live Music Spots calendar currently includes 105 shows happening around Metro Atlanta and North Georgia from Friday, September 4 through Sunday, September 6. Twelve of those listings are marked free.

Four outdoor concerts stand out as an easy way to build a long weekend around live music. They stretch from downtown Kennesaw to Cumming City Center and Sandy Springs, with roots music, classic rock, soul and funk spread across three nights.

As always, outdoor schedules can change. Check the official event page before leaving home, especially if the weather looks uncertain.

Friday: Sons N Britches in Downtown Kennesaw

Downtown Kennesaw's First Friday Concert Series returns to Main Street Plaza with Sons N Britches from 7 to 9 p.m.

The group blends Americana, blues, country, folk and rock. The setting makes this more than a stop-and-watch performance. Downtown businesses remain open around the plaza, and the event includes local food and beverages.

The First Friday series is now in its sixth year. It runs monthly from April through October, excluding July, and turns the center of downtown into a recurring community music destination.

The Fixins take over the Lou Sobh Amphitheater Friday from 8 to 10 p.m.

The Atlanta-based five-piece plays original rock built around vocals, guitar, keyboards and a rhythm section designed to keep the crowd moving. Admission and parking are free.

Cumming City Center asks guests to bring lawn chairs or blankets. Outside food, alcoholic beverages, coolers, cans, glass bottles and smoking are not permitted. Friendly dogs are allowed on leash.

Saturday: The Troubadour Project in Cumming

The Lou Sobh Amphitheater hosts a second free concert Saturday night when The Troubadour Project takes the stage from 8 to 10 p.m.

The band builds its show around classic rock from the 1970s. It is the kind of set made for listeners who want familiar songs, big guitar parts and an outdoor crowd ready to sing along.

Admission and parking are again free, and the same amphitheater rules apply. Bring a lawn chair or blanket, leave the cooler at home and arrive early enough to settle in before the music starts.
